Nontraditional Fall Colors in the Living Room

Wait! What happened? I purposed to not lament the passing of summer this year. Instead, I was going to relish the coming of cooler weather. I was going to revel in the unearthing of my favorite boots from the pile in the back of my closet. I thought I would rejoice as I wakened my old favorite sweaters from their summer slumber.  I was going to have my home decorated for the season ahead of the game giving you all ideas and inspiration to decorate your homes for family and guests, alike. But, life happens. Sometimes it is messy and all our plans have to give way to what the Lord has for us.

That being said, my home is decorated for the season. I had been sharing with you some of the projects I was working on to get it ready for the decorating (here, here and here). This year I decided to hold onto some of summer color and deviate from the traditional oranges and yellows that come with the season.

As I am writing this I am also realizing I had not yet shared with you the finished living room. Remember in February of this year we ripped that room apart when we decided to move the television to a different wall. That turned into a slew of projects that encompassed three rooms in our home. (You can read about them here, here and here.)

So without any further delay (or better late than never) this is our living room, dressed in it's autumn regalia.

I repainted the inside of my hutch top to white.

This is the tv wall that started all the projects this year.

I love the lighting we chose for this room. While I was taking pictures one of the new shows was on HGTV and look at the light! GAH!

Are they doing the hand-jive?

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you are all decorated for the season and enjoying the time as you ready for the fast approaching holidays.

  2. In a word, WOW, the room is beautiful. Love the TV wall and color. Tell the truth, were you doing a little dance when you saw the same light? I would've been, LOL. It's a beauty. Been MIA for a while but I am back and had some news

    1. Hi Cindy! I did read that the new medicine was doing wonders for you. I am happy for you and praise the Lord for his mercies toward you. Thank you for stopping by and for the kind words. Oh, and yes I was happy dancing but trying to take photos of it at the same time to show my Mister. Ha-ha! It's nice to get a little confirmation that other people like the things you like. Hope your meeting with the guy to sell your signs worked out. How could he not love them?!

  4. Well, I for one, LOVE your choice for fall color. (I used the same.) Your room is gorgeous and now you have me rethinking.... I said I would never hang my tv, but I have a SKINNY living room and I just might be able to sneak in a coffee table if I did in fact hang the tv.... hmmmmm....

    1. Yay! Go for it Nikki! I do have to warn though.... we thought it was just going to be a little hole in the wall like here (http://whileilinger.blogspot.com/2015/05/media-storage.html)
when we hung it the first time. The problem happened when we decided to move it to other side. One little hole ended up all the walls down to the studs. I hope your walls are in better shape than mine were. I'm glad others are using unconventional colors for the season. Thanks for stopping by and taking time to chat.

  8. I love the colour combination - and the pale backdrops. I saw the first pic of the stripped back room and nearly had a heart attack - then saw the rest of the photos and the difference was amazing. Leanne | www.crestingthehill.com.au

    1. Hi, Leanne. I too nearly had a heart attack when I realized that we were ripping the all the horse-hair plaster down. We just wanted to move the tv! Now, as the cooler weather approaches I am so glad we did. The room is well insulated now and a fresh coat of paint can make a world of difference. Thank you for stopping by!

  16. What a lovely room. It's so light and open and calming. I love the non-traditional decor colors. And that shiplap wall? Absolutely stunning. Isn't it funny how making one change, like the TV position, can spur and entire make-over? LOL It was definitely worth it, it's gorgeous!
